Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has secured 21 victories at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

He rescued four early opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
