“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”

This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Previous examples involve:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
